Tent hire in Akagera National Park is now available. Are you planning to do Camping at any of Akagera National Park’s four Campsites but don’t have or plan on carrying your own Tent? Worry not, because there is an option of Tent Hire in Rwanda’s only Savannah National Park, providing an opportunity of experiencing this African Wilderness in a different way. Tent Hire in Akagera National Park is possible at the reception/Visitor center, especially for the Camping Sites in the southern part of the Park (Shakani and Muyumbu Campsites).

Tent Hire in Akagera National Park is available at $20 per 6-man (3X3 meters) for Canvas Tents, and remember that this is only available for the Southern Camping Sites. This doesn’t include the Camping fees which costs $25 per person per night for adults (13 years and above) and $15 per person per night for children aged 6 to 12 years.

However, for Mihindi Campsite, visitors are required to pay $50 per person per night for adults, $30 per person per night for children between 6 and 12 years, and it is free for children below 6 years. In addition to Hiring Tents and paying Camping fees, any visitor to Akagera National Park (including Campers) is required to pay entry fees that cost $75 to $100 per person, depending on the number of nights/days.

Akagera National Park is a phenomenal 1122-square-kilometer National Park found on the Eastern side of Rwanda and is known as the only savannah-dominated Protected Area in the country. This Park has four recognized Campsites that offer basic facilities for visitors looking to experience a typical African Wilderness Experience.

Shakani and Muyumbu Campsites are in the southern part of this Protected Area, with the latter sitting on a ridge that overlooks Lakes Shakani and Ihema, and the Tanzanian border in the distance. Not only that, visitors staying here are guaranteed of enjoying a breathtaking backdrop of the rising sun.

For visitors Camping at Shakani Campsite, expect a wonderful Lakeshore Camping Experience with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of listening to beautiful bird melodies as well as Hippo grunts. This is surprisingly the only Camping featuring running water, flushing toilets, and solar-heated showers in its ablution block.

For the Northern part of the Park, there is Mutumba Campsite known for its game-rich area of beautiful rolling grassland hills. Mihindi Campsite has a low-lying electric fence that deters animals especially Hippos, BBQ Facilities, and an ablution block with solar-heated showers and flushing toilets. There is also a picnic site for day visitors and a coffee shop that was converted from an old Research House.
