Kageyo peninsular area is found in Akagera National Park in the Eastern Province of Rwanda about 2-3 hours’ drive from Kigali capital city. From Lake Hago, Kageyo peninsular is about 34 kilometers’ drive away and it connects to main route. It also serves as a resettlement village in the eastern part of Rwanda. After the Rwanda genocide in 1959, several people sought refuge to nearby countries including Tanzania. But in 2007, the Tanzania government demanded that all refugees be taken back to their country and thousands of them were forced to pack whatever they to get back to Rwanda.Book Now

Over 450 families settled at the Rwanda border at Akagera National Park side of Kageyo where government set apart for them. They form a community at Kageyo. Places in and around Kageyo peninsular include Nyampiki peninsular takes you towards Lake Hago’s eastern shores and this is a perfect spot for you to catch a glimpse at elephants, buffaloes, zebras and the Lake Hago inhabits many hippos. At its shores, the vegetation is thick and at times, it is challenging to see most wildlife species especially baboons, the vervet monkeys, impalas that thrive within this area.

The roads in and around Kageyo peninsular include Buyanja tertiary road, Buyanja secondary road, Sante Street Center, Igihuru road, Kabare school, Gahini route, Gacaca route and many more.
Other peninsulars or game loops to explore in and around Akagera National Park include the giraffe loop, Rwisirabo loop, Kitabili loop, Rurama loop, Mohana plains, Kilala plains, Nyampiki peninsular, Nyamabuye lookout, Kajumbura lookout, Magashi peninsular to mention but a few.
