Kitabili Loop expands up to 70 kilometers, which is about 5 hours’ drive thus making it a longer variation of the Rwisirabo Loop. It takes you nearly the same hours to cover the Kitabili loop just like embarking on a day game drive from Ruzizi Tented Lodge or Akagera Game Lodge of especially during the rainy season. Visitors drive up to Mohana Plains to Lake Birengero. From here, you don’t turn left at junction 13 but rather proceed for about 15 kilometres to Lake Hago and then to Kageyo about 34 kilometres and Nyampiki Peninsulas.Book Now

Impalas along the Kitabili Loop

Nyampiki peninsula track takes you via the scenic Lake Hago shores with opportunity to lookout for elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and hippos from the lake and some baboons, impalas, vervet monkeys and many more. From Nyampiki Peninsular, drive to the north for a short distance to Junction 20 and make a turn to the left to come to Junction 21 at Kitabili and keep left at Junction 22 where you drive via highland route back south to Rwisirabo and Akagera National Park reception which gets you a chance to spot out zebras, Oribis, topis and magical wooded grassland.

Note game drives in the northern side of Kitabili are limited because of the remote nature of the area and also limited lodging options where you can retire over the day. Most accommodation options at Akagera National Park are concentrated around the park main entrance gate regardless of the fact that game drives are better done in the north than the south. Game drives in Akagera National Park offer you a rare opportunity to see variety of wildlife species including lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, birds, antelopes, buffaloes, rhinos to mention but a few.

Kitabili Loop is one of the most remarkable loops that allow you to explore distinct wildlife species in the northern part of Akagera National Park and also get the best of off-beaten sceneries of the area.

Visiting Kitabili Loop gives visitors an opportunity to visit the nearest National Park called Akagera National Park, it nestled in low-lying area in Savannah plains which has favored the presence of the big five. In additional, the park is a paradise for bird lovers which offer you unique opportunity to see notable bird species including Shoebill, Caruthers Cisticola, White-winged Warbler and among others.

The striking picturesque appearance of Akagera National Park in Rwanda is a reciprocal of Lake Mburo National Park in Uganda, same numerous wildlife especially the Zebra, Impala, Giraffes, buffalo are experienced in both parks throughout the year.
