Nyungwe Gate is also known as the northern gate and it is the exit gate of the Akagera National Park. The entry gate is known as the South gate or the Kiyonza gate which is close to park headquarters. Nyungwe gate in most of the times used by guests to exit the park however of recent with the coming up of Magashi luxury camp –a high end safari accommodation inside Akagera National Park, the gate is now being used as an entry point by only residents of Magashi where guests are dropped off at the Nyungwe gate by a shuttle from Kigali daily. For the most classic wildlife game drive in Akagera, this happens more around the Nyungwe gate, the area has the highest concentration of  animals including the Buffaloes, Antelopes, Zebras, Warthogs, giraffes etc.. Upon picking up you safari guide from the Park reception from the south gate, visitors on a self-guided tours are advised to rent a game guide from the park reception at US$ 40.00 that will take you through a full day game drive to the exit gate which is referred to as the northern Nyungwe gate.

Why you must Visit Akagera National Park in Rwanda. 

Here is why you MUST visit Akagera National Park. Akagera National Park is open to day visitors from 6am to 6pm daily. Please sure you have exited the park before 6pm. Overnight visitors must be at their accommodation facility by 6pm, unless they are conducting a night game drive activity operated by the Park management.

Toilets are available at Muyumbu, Shakani and Mutumba campsites, Lake Mihindii Picnic area, the reception and Nyungwe exit gate in the north. All visitors are advised to carry with them all their rubbish out of the park.
