Access to Magashi Camp in Akagera National Park

Access to Magashi Camp located in Akagera National Park has been made so easy and accessible through the North gate.  African parks have established a facility at the north gate of the Park in Rwanda – a comfort stop where guests for easy access to Magashi Camp. Visitors will be able to enjoy refreshments, buy local souvenirs and make use of the bathrooms at the Northern gate. This will allow for greater flexibility in transfer arrangements to and from Magashi Camp. From the beginning of May 2019, all tour operators will be able to transfer their guests by private vehicle to north gate, where they will be met by a Magashi guide and vehicle for the onward transfer to camp. Magashi Camp Living Area

Note: North gate is strictly an exit gate only and misuse of this will not be tolerated by park management.

To ensure logistics run smoothly, and guests are not inconvenienced, standard operating procedure is as follows to allow easy access to Magashi Camp.

-There is a set daily arrival and departure time of 11:00 at the north gate facility. It is extremely important that all tour operators adhere to this time to avoid guests having to wait.

-Departing guests will be transferred from camp by the Magashi vehicle to be at the gate by 11:00, for collection by the tour operator and onward arrangements.

-Arriving guests must be dropped off by the tour operators by 11:00 to meet the Magashi vehicle for the transfer into camp.

If for some reason, arriving guests are unable to meet the 11:00 collection for Magashi at north gate, it is possible to request a 15:00 collection from north gate. Available for arrivals only, not departing guests, this must be booked in advance, and is subject to availability – and therefore confirmation. If guests do make use of this later transfer, note that an afternoon activity at Magashi is not guaranteed due to the later arrival in camp.

On the day of departure from Magashi Camp, guests will have a relaxed breakfast before leaving camp between 08:00 and 09:30 for an extended game drive to the gate. The camp will provide a lunch pack for the onward transfer to Kigali,

Arriving in the city around 14:30. Important to note is that if guests have an onward private road transfer to Volcanoes National Park, they will spend most of the day in the vehicle, so a helicopter transfer on at least one leg is recommended.

Special dispensation has been granted to allow Magashi Camp to use the north gate as the entry point for resident guests only
