White Rhino Walks at KarengeThese rhinos are currently in a protected area known as the Boma, where they are being closely monitored before being fully released into the wild. To provide guests with a rare and meaningful experience, the park has introduced this amazing and memorable nature-based activity: White Rhino Walks at Karenge Bush Camp.

This guided experience allows participants to observe the rhinos’ behavior, condition, and overall health alongside expert trackers, contributing to both conservation awareness and the animals’ well-being. Expereicne duration is 1.5 hours to 2  hours.

White Rhino Walks Activity Information. 

Rhino tracking is conducted on foot, and guests must be physically and medically fit to undertake a
moderate-level walk. Guests must be ready to sign an indemnity form before undertaking the activity.
Rhino tracking is for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 guests, and is exclusively available to Karenge Bush Camp guests only.

The minimum age for participating is 16 years old, with all guests under 18 years old to be accompanied by a legal guardian. Guests depart camp around 6:30 am to arrive at the rhino bomas in time to begin the walk around 7 am. Guests start with a brief history of the translocation process and a safety briefing, and the experience may last 1.5-2 hours.

Guests must come prepared with appropriate attire for walking, including safe enclosed walking shoes,
protective clothing from the sun or rain, and long pants for walking through grasses and vegetation. The
terrain is mildly undulating, rocky, and uneven, with tall grasses and thorny vegetation, and the weather
can be unpredictable.

The White Rhino Walks at Karenge may be cancelled if guests do not have appropriate attire or if the
weather prevents walking. All guests must abide by all the instructions provided by the walking guide and tracker team, including minimizing noise to not scare the animals. Flash photography is not permitted on the walk.

Rhino tracking or walks are available with pre-booking only. Join the dedicated rhino tracking team as they monitor the rhinos on foot, observing behaviours, condition, and health to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals and the population.
